A few days ago, 2 intrepid photographers set off on an adventure through the hills, farms and fields of southern Illinois. Triple espressos in hand, they set off from their suburban St. Louis homes at the crack of dawn. Despite a few unfortunate wrong turns, they finally arrived at their destination, a little late and a little tired. And here is what they saw...

Special thanks to our newest team member, Laura. As you can see, Laura draws on her experience as an expert in the Norwegian Frontal Stance, a technique pioneered by the elusive master Lars Seljedid back in the late 1950's. Laura was the first American Woman to be certified as a Master NFS Craftsman by the Norwegian Stance Institute (NSI). By using this Stance, she is able to capture a full facial exposure, whilst maintaing an eye level, off angle approach so as to not intimidate the subject. Notice the solid planting of the forward foot, forming a base of support that rivals the the foundation of the famous Fort Knox. Yet, at a moments notice, she can spring forward, rotating 270 degrees in either direction, maintaining Camera Integrity at all times.

Laura also brings to Saliba Photography an incredible understanding and demonstrated skill in the handling of the "Golden Love" reflector.

"I have always had a fascination with optics, with a particular interest in refraction at the upper ends of the Golden spectrum," says Laura. "I am really looking forward to expanding into the Silver."

Sometimes when we meet people, we know instantly where and how we want to photograph them. This can be frustrating, because they may not even be our clients yet. So there we sit, and wait, and sit some more, until finally, they become our clients. By that time, we already have a story, a setting, a great idea for a photo session.

When we first met Eliza, we found out she was a St. Louis Rams Cheerleader. Instantly, we ignored the ideas of her on the 50 yard line, her in her uniform, and went straight to the "Ok, let's pretend the two of you just met at a cocktail reception in downtown St. Louis; instant chemistry, so instead of staying at the reception, you sneak out behind the buildings and steal some private moments." Of course, we were there to photograph it!

We truly enjoy engagement and creative sessions, we love setting the scene, and creating a storyline that leads to great photos.

Of course, it helps to have a creative, great looking couple to work with. Obviously, Brandon has taught Eliza all his moves, and made our job easy. Thanks so much.

The Photographers Part III

Remember the film "Gorillas in the Mist?" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095243/) Released in 1988, it told the story of Dian Fossey, a legendary scientist who went to Africa to study the vanishing Mountain Gorillas. The elusive creatures eventually came to accept Dian as almost one of their own. The cinematography was incredible; The highly intelligent gorillas would hide, using whatever landscape features were available, surreptitiously observing Dian as she studied their culture and habitat. The Great Silverbacks were always near, always taking in every view, every movement, and every action of Dian. Mountain Gorillas were gentle, very intelligent gathers. A very rare breed indeed.

Ok, so weddings are A LOT of work for everyone. For a photographer, it is a hard day of running around, making sure you capture everything you can and making sure you make the bride and groom VERY happy. Did I mention that we have to do all this and try not to be seen. We try our best to be a fly on the wall and capture every perfect moment.

We make sure we have top of the line equipment because our equipment goes through a lot during a wedding. I don't know how many times we have to toss our cameras in the back seat of the car after a ceremony and rush off to the reception.
